Edu4Deaf.org
Scoutmag.org, a private non-profit founded in 2019, is dedicated to cultural conservation and educational services. Just before the COVID-19 pandemic, our founder, an Australian computer engineering researcher, explored diverse sign languages and AI-based interactive systems. She immersed herself in Auslan (Australian Sign Language) through certificate-based classes with deaf teachers, inspired by the resilience of deaf professionals and advocates, supported by Australia’s inclusive policies.
Through a research collaboration in Vietnam to build the VSL2025 dataset of Vietnamese sign language—over 10,500 sign videos, we found gaps in deaf education. To bridge this, we launched the Scoutmag Online School at Edu4Deaf.org, a privately funded initiative to enhance educational access for deaf children.
Things that make us proud
Our first courses of training via Vietnamese Sign Language (VSL), including English Study for Beginners with VSL (June 2025), stem from a partnership facilitated by the Australian-Vietnamese Strategic Technologies Centre (AVSTC), established in 2025.
From 2025 to 2028, we commit to sponsoring VSL material development and a free online learning system for Vietnamese deaf children. Powered our Digital Hub For Deaf, we invite you to join us at Edu4Deaf.org to learn, connect, and empower inclusive education.
Founder
Dr. Pham is a Vietnamese Australian researcher in computer engineering, machine learning and data science. She has research interest in different sign languages and AI-based interactive system solutions. She began exploring Auslan (Australian Sign Language) as a true learner in certificate-based class with deaf teachers. She found the resilience of deaf professionals and advocates, supported by Australia’s inclusive policies. Once witnessed the disadvantages of deaf communities in Vietnam, she proposed a non-profit solution and mainly self-funded to make it happened with the help of other passionate supporters.
